This started life as a songwriting assignment: we were given the job of writing a song based on the heartbreaking letter by Italian novelist Francesca Melandri, who wrote it while under lockdown in Rome (www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/…out-your-future). It begins: "I am writing to you from Italy, which means I am writing from your future... we are now where you will be in a few days." Sadly she was correct.
