1.
Sadness crashes down in waves So tall they could carry you away Grief swells in hurt and pain and rage Some days it’s too much to contain Where do you go now? Where do you go now? Where do you go now? You can’t go home It leaves a heartache that won’t heal An empty place you’ll never fill Joy unconfined carries a cost You pay the price of love with loss Where do you go now? Where do you go now? Where do you go now? You can’t go home Where do you go now? Where do you go now?
2.
Saw your colours in a window today at first it made me smile but I had to turn away these reminders don’t feel like a kindness in these blurry days Try to gaze through the haze I’ve been in since you went away Today you'll rise like a butterfly Today we'll cry Goodbye, butterfly Stated your desire, said we all should stay away Hoped you’d send a sign but life doesn’t work that way So I clicked through the pictures we took in much happier days of the faces and places that never felt so far away Today you'll rise
3.
in whispered words and power chords In tiny hands reaching for yours In acts of kindness In longing looks and missed-you hugs In borrowed books and gentle touch in times of sadness Love will save us from sadness Love, my love In promises and little lies In-jokes retold a thousand times In words unspoken In sharpie scrawls and valentines In fading scars and laughter lines in your hand held so tight in mine Love will save us from sadness Love, my love
4.
I’ll miss the songs we’ll never sing I’ll miss the joy and light you bring I always knew my time with you was only temporary I liked the me you helped me be I didn’t feel so crazy and now you’re gone it’s all undone how can I keep keeping on? Goodbye I’ve no more tears left to cry

about

Maxi Jazz knew what he was talking about when he said of music, "this is my church. This is where I heal my hurts". These songs were written during a period of intense sadness and loss, and they're our way of finding the crack of light in the darkness: they come from a sad place, but they're songs of life, of love and even of joy. As the title track puts it: love will save us from sadness.

The EP begins with a surge of guitars in You Can't Go Home, a song about trying to stay afloat when "sadness crashes down in waves / so tall they could carry you away" played on soaring Stratocasters and fierce Fender bass. As its pain and rage subsides it's succeeded by the gentler, sweeter These Blurry Days, a fragile farewell broadcast from the haziest of days.

The guitars roar back in the anthemic Love Will Save Us From Sadness, a celebration of the places love lives – "in Sharpie scrawls and Valentines / in fading scars and laughter lines" – and of the joys and sadnesses it can bring. Those sadnesses suffuse the closing memento mori of No More Tears To Cry, in which Carrie "always knew / my time with you / was only temporary".

about

HAVR Glasgow, UK

HAVR make big music. It’s music born of love and of loss, of hope and of heartbreak, the sound of big hearts beating inside bruised bodies.

HAVR are Kenny Martin (bass), David Marshall (guitar) and Carrie Marshall (guitar/vocals).

Influenced by post-punk, pristine pop and power trios, Kenny, David and Carrie are having too much fun to stick to a single genre.
